Which is the Best Burger in Walmart???
It’s Burger Season
Nothing says summertime grilling like a good old-fashioned hamburger. Blue skies, the sun shining brightly and the grill burning hot. I can already see the family and friends gathered in the yard and you manning the grill to prepare these tasty treats to the hungry masses. This has all of the makings of a great day! One thing for sure, you do not want to feed a sub-par burger to your loved ones. That is why we decided to find out which is the best frozen burger in Walmart to serve at your cookout.
Why Walmart?
Now, if you remember, we did something similar with hot dogs. You can watch that video here. One of the flaws that was discovered in that plan was that the hot dogs that were available here, weren’t available in many other parts of the country. Nobody wants to watch a video about a bunch of tastiness that isn’t even available in your area, right? (I thought you’d agree) Well that is the reason that we decided to raid our local Walmart for every box and package of frozen burgers that we could find. Let’s face it, there is a Walmart in just about every city and town all over this great country of ours. I hope that this solves the old hot dog video problem.
The Burgers
We were hoping for all plain beef burgers in order to keep it on a level playing field but there were only four types of burgers that were just beef. We felt that it would make for a pretty boring test and video with only 4 burgers to deliberate on. So, we made the executive decision to include burgers that had additional ingredients in them such as bacon, cheese, and onion. For all of you nonmeat eaters out there, we wanted to include you as well, so we even put a plant-based burger in the mix as well. You can probably already guess where that one ranked in my beef loving world. The other burger that we included, although accidentally, is a pork burger.
The Test
We wanted to make sure that we were keeping things as equal as possible, so we cooked each different burger side by side, at the same time, on the same grill. This way there could be no complaints of this one or that one being prepared differently or any other differences that our sharp-eyed audience could find. (the hot dog video comments really opened our eyes to how particular you all are!)
Each was cooked on the Big Green Egg using our Black Bag Premium Charcoal using the raised direct method. This gives plenty of space between the burgers and the hot FOGO charcoal so that even if there were hot spots, we could manage it quite easily. The last thing that we wanted was some burgers cooked more than others or cooking them too close to the flame and risking burning them.
If you want a burger, you will most likely want some type of bread. I know, I know, not for you low carb keto folks. It’s ok, you can have yours with no bun. For me, I want my burger on a bun. My favorite is a burger on an onion pocket from my local bakery. But, in keeping with our desire to make sure that it is something that everyone can get their hands on, we decided on plain old inexpensive Walmart plain hamburger buns. You know what? These simple buns really let the burger flavors shine through, so it worked out just fine. I actually really enjoyed the buns!
The last thing that we had to decide on was toppings. Now, if you are like me, I’m loading my burger up with whatever I can get my hands on. Lettuce, onion, tomatoes, mayo, ketchup, and any other thing that you can imagine are great on a burger. Well, for our test, we wanted to let the burgers do the talking so we went with a simple squirt of ketchup on each one and that was it. Nothing else. Nope, let the beef shine!
Burger Taste Test Results
The results of the test actually surprised me a bit. The burgers that I have had in the past and that I expected to do well in the test didn’t really fare as well as I would have expected. There are others that I did not expect to enjoy very much, and boy was I right! Maybe the preconceived ideas of these stayed in my head, I don’t know. I do know this, there was one that I found nearly “impossible” to eat…
We hope that you enjoy the video and the test, we sure had a great time doing it. We also hope that you enjoy #GrillingSeason and have lots of sunny days and full bellies with your friends and family. Remember to always fill your grill with FOGO, get out and grill and we will see you the next time on The FOGO Life!
Directions:
- Fill your grill with FOGO Premium Charcoal and prepare for direct grilling over medium high heat using your Blazaball and Firestarters. If you seem to have hot spots, move some of the coals around using your Cherry Picker.
- Place burgers on the hot grill and cook for the recommended time on the packaging. Flip burgers halfway through using the Ultimate Spatula (not shown in video)
- Remove Burgers from the grill, add your favorite toppings and enjoy! You’ll definitely enjoy some more than others!
